Witnessing the devastation of a flood can make you overlook the more dangerous aspects of the damage. Take for instance the electrical supply. Everything in your building or home that has a cord or wire can suddenly turn into a death trap for visitors. Who to Call Before Entering the Building

Your local electric company will be able to disconnect any questionable service to the flood-damaged home. They can also add safe temporary wiring for when the cleanup begins. Do not attempt to start a generator before consulting with the electric company or a trained electrician first. Carbon monoxide poisoning could result.

Are Electrical Appliances and Electronics Safe to Use after a Flood?

You should never assume that anything electrical or electronic is safe for use. Your cleanup crew will be able to better assess the situation. It is better to just grab what change of clothes you will need, move to a safe location and wait for further instructions.

Can I Shut Off Power to the Electrical Box if I See Water Coming in?

Never try and turn off power at the breaker box if there is standing water. You may have to wait for the electric utility company to arrive and shut off power at the meter. Also avoid turning off light switches that may be exposed to water.

If I could recommend sainthood it would go to Jill at Lotus restoration services. To make a long short she literally saved us thousands of dollars of expenses. We live 1200 miles from the property we were having issues with. My wife and I talked to over a dozen of different vendors doing various tasks and we spend plenty of money doing so. We received Jills information from one of those vendors and found out that the problem wasn't even ours. Jill took the bull by the horns, made calls on our behalf and lined up what really needed to be done for the tenant below us that was really having the issue. I swear I wouldn't look anywhere else. She's amazing and her customer service is the way customer service should based on. Thank you Jill.

I called Lotus on a Sunday night because my AC was leaking into my Ceiling. Jill gave recommendations for HVAC Companies to fix the leak and had a Lotus crew to my house the next morning to clear out the damaged ceiling and to dry out the area. Chris (who worked on everything) was wonderful with answering all of my questions and very responsive to texts. If I could give more stars I would.
